Scholarship being established in Memory of Russell Carter, Sr.

Russell Edmonds Carter, Sr. graduated from Lower Merion High School in 1951. He was an exemplary student athlete. A talented football player and track star, he was captain of the track team his senior year. In 2007, he was inducted into the Lower Merion Football Hall of Fame; in 2018, he was inducted into the Track Hall of Fame. After graduation, he was offered a scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh but decided to enlist in the United States Navy in which he served during the Korean War. Having completed Navy Boot Camp, he went on to serve with the United States Marine Corps as a Corpsman for the rest of his 4-year enlistment. He was employed by American Food Service for 20 years and retired in 1994. Russell was a member of the Leon Spencer Reid Post #547 for 35 years and was the commander for 20 years. Russell’s family has requested that donations be made in his name to LMTSF in hopes of establishing a grant to help future Lower Merion graduates achieve their lifelong dreams.
